Overview (back)

The training is conducted in the workplace, and based on the work employees are now doing as part of their roles, That is, they will receive recognition of current competencies (RCC), as well as acknowledging what they have done in the past, ie; recognition of prior learning (RPL).

The training is tailored to the needs of the employer and requirements of the employee’s role. Hence it should contribute to a more productive workplace.
Training delivery is flexible and conducted with little interruption to the workflow.
We discuss with the employer the least disruptive and most beneficial method of delivery.

As a Registered Training Organisation partner to Mission Australia, Educate Grow Develop (EGD) is able to facilitate the process in conjunction with the employer and employee. EGD conducts all assessment, accreditation and the review of competency evidence, as well as training as required.

The Federal government subsidy for each employee is up to $4,000 with a commencement payment of $1,500 per employee within 90 days and a completion payment of $2,500. The course is conducted over a period of up to 18 months. There is a residual amount for the employer, hence, the training can be delivered at no cost to the employer.

How is Competency Measured? (back)

Consistent with the National Training Framework, Educate Grow Develop uses assessments and processes to assist in recognition of competencies trainees have gained in the workplace. Some qualifications are offered as a customised assessment program to assist workers with relevant experience gain qualifications.

Trainees can gain recognition for competencies by providing evidence of their competence, which is then evaluated through a skills recognition process. Competency based training is not like traditional classroom learning. It is about skills being able to be demonstrated across a range of situations. Because of its flexibility, different learning styles, Interests and needs can be accommodated.

Each qualification is made up of a series of competencies. Each Unit of Competency describes the outcomes of a complete set of skills and tasks that are needed to do part of a job. Units are further broken down into Elements, which are the smaller outcomes which make up the Unit.

Much of the assessment in the workplace is based on the trainee providing evidence (proof) that they have the skills to meet the competencies. Evidence is anything which supports the claim of competence in a particular area.
